Olathe United continued their winning ways with their 12th win in a row in league play and 15th win across all competitions. They defeated Crown Villa 3-0 on a rainy night at Maranatha Christian Academy. Both teams started conservatively in the first 10 minutes with Olathe having some success down the right side with crosses on the ground just out of the reach of crashing wingers. They finally broke through in the 19th minute when Andrew Porter sent a shot in off a free kick from 22 yards out that short hopped the goalie. Striker Parker Hurla alertly crashed the goal while everyone else watched and scored off the rebound. Hurla again was involved in the 24th minute when he beat his man to the endline and cut back where he was tackled down by the Crown Villa defender, drawing the penalty kick. The PK was saved by the keeper when he guessed correctly. Olathe added their second goal the corner kick from Braden Yows was beautifully headed home by defensive midfielder, Andrew Porter. In the second half, Olathe was again awarded a penalty kick when a Crown Villa defender tackled Parker Hurla again in the box after he had made 2 men miss as he dribbled toward the goal. Max Leiker calmly stepped up and buried the penalty kick.
After the game, we caught up with Coach Todd Esh. "This was a nice win for these boys as we have played 5 games in the last 9 days. We have some injuries and tired legs right now so we wanted to try to rest those that had some knocks as we still have 3 games in the next 10 days. I thought we played really well overall. There were some times we played a little bit frantic when we didn't need to but our defense and goalkeepers played outstanding. I thought our subs did a great job in understanding what needed to be done in the final 30 minutes to close out the game. Parker Hurla had an outstanding game as he drew two penalty kicks and scored our first goal by actually doing what every coach tells their player to do and crashed the goal. He did a great job pressing up top as he is deceptively fast and is very good at poking the ball away when defenders don't get it off their feet. He also took a boot to the nose for all his efforts. He played a really good game."
Olathe's next game is Friday, June 20 at 7PM vs Woodland FC at Stump Park.
